The major pump station serving Cork City was built to serve the newly constructed WWTP serving Cork City (Carrigrenan WWTP). It delivers approximately 70,000 m³/d to an independent screenings and grit removal plant before the effluent travels to the main Cork City WWTP in Little Island, Co Cork, via pipes under the River Lee. EPS operates both the main pump station (Atlantic Pond Pump Station, adjacent to the famous Páirc Uí Chaoimh) and the Ballinure Header Chamber, on behalf of Cork City Council.
Atlantic Pond Pump Station houses four foul pumps, each capable of delivering 1,400 l/s, served by 550 kW motors and four number storm pumps, each capable of delivering 2,500 l/s, served by 760 kW motors.
