Quick reference: 100,000 PE
Duration of contract: 20 years
O&M commencement date: January 2004
EPS operates the WWTP serving the town of Drogheda in Co Louth. The contract included the operation of the nearby Dundalk WWTP (180,000 PE). On contract commencement, the design capacity of the WWTP was 70,000 PE but with the expansion of the town and environs, an upgrade was constructed, bringing the capacity of the works to 100,000 PE.
The process consists of an inlet works, followed by primary settlement, activated sludge treatment and final settlement. The sludges undergo thickening, mesophilic anaerobic digestion, de-watering and stabilisation. Electricity is produced on-site from the biogas produced during the digestion process. The WWTP acts as a sludge reception hub for other treatment plants in the county.
